‘So happy’ – Ronaldo completes another comeback, becomes Al Nassr's all-time top scorer

Cristiano Ronaldo may be accustomed by now to breaking record after record, but that didn’t diminish his joy at the latest.

The Al Nassr captain was the man of the moment once again on Friday night, netting the winner as the Roshn Saudi League champions came from behind to win again to maintain their 100 percent start to their title defence.

Having gone a goal down to Al Taawoun on 11 minutes at Al Awwal Park, Al Nassr rallied for the second time in two RSL outings.

First, summer signing Samu Costa pulled the hosts level deep into first-half stoppage-time, the midfielder screwing a superb low shot from range to make it two goals in three league matches.

Then, five minutes after the break, Ronaldo rose to the occasion. Reigning Saudi Pro League Player of the Season Joao Felix did brilliantly to work to the byline, his pull-back was directed towards goal by Mohamed Simakan, and Ronaldo was in place to tap home.

While the goal sealed another Al Nassr comeback and another victory, it also lifted Ronaldo into yet more rarefied air. With 104 goals in 110 RSL appearances, the five-time Ballon d’Or is now Al Nassr’s all-time leading scorer in the top flight in the Saudi Pro League era.

“So happy,” Ronaldo beamed after receiving the Man of the Match award. “It's a great achievement, but it's not only for Cristiano. I have to say thank you to my teammates because without them, this will be impossible. 

“But I'm really happy for the fans as well. They support me all the time and I'm so proud for that.”

So proud, too, of his team. After the incredible victory last time out at Al Ettifaq, Ange Postecoglou’s title-holders are proving they won’t be giving up the trophy without a fight.

“Step by step,” Ronaldo reminded. “We didn't start very well the game, but we score, we draw. And, after the second half, we play good, we react very well.

"The team play better, more fast. We create chances and we deserve to win.”
