Mane hails 'incredible' Ballon d’Or nod - and says more RSL stars could make list

Sadio Mane has celebrated his place among the contenders for the 2026 Ballon d’Or, with the Al Nassr star also highlighting the quality of players across the Roshn Saudi League.

The Senegal international was named on the 30-man shortlist for football’s most prestigious individual award alongside fellow RSL standout Julian Quinones, following another memorable year for club and country.

For Mane, the recognition was an opportunity to acknowledge those who have supported him - and the strength of the competition in which he plays.

“The feeling is incredible,” Mane said following Al Nassr’s 2-1 home victory against Abha on Wednesday night. “I would say thank you to the fans and, of course, to the journalists.

“I know many players could have been on the list for sure, especially from the Saudi Pro League. But yeah, this is the vote. So I would say thank you again.”

Mane’s nomination comes after playing a central role in Al Nassr’s 2025-26 RSL title triumph, when he scored 10 goals and recorded six assists as the Riyadh side held off rivals Al Hilal to be crowned champions.

And, in helping Senegal reach the final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and reach the knockouts of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the former Liverpool and Bayern Munich forward continued to demonstrate the qualities that make him one of African football’s most celebrated players.

And, despite another major individual accolade, Mane remains determined to build on his achievements.

“Of course, [it’s been an amazing year for me],” he said. “But I will try to keep on going and, of course, to get better and better.”

The winner of the 2026 Ballon d’Or will be announced in London on October 26.
