Star signing from West Ham United fails to convert penalty but still shines in 3-0 victory at Al Fayha - then vows more to come

Crysencio Summerville’s “Panenka” penalty didn’t come off, Al Hilal’s star summer signing spurning the opportunity to open his account for the club.

The Netherlands international was granted the perfect chance on Thursday to get off the mark in only his second Roshn Saudi League appearance but, with Al Hilal already 2-0 up at Al Fayha, he clipped his spot-kick onto the top of the hosts’ crossbar.

In the end, and fortunately for Summerville, it didn’t affect the outcome. Al Hilal did manage another, Nasser Al Dawsari adding to earlier goals from Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Sultan Mandash, and a second successive RSL victory in 2026-27 was theirs.

Afterwards, Summerville was right to focus on the win.

“Yeah, we’ve started very strong in the league; very important away game as well,” he said. “So I'm happy with the three points today.

“Obviously, the three points away from home, very important for us. We had some good attacks, but we need to finish them.”

Certainly, that would apply to his penalty, too.

“Oh yeah, I should have put it away, to [seal] the game as well,” Summerville said. “I had some couple of bits in the game, but it needed to be sharper also in front of goal.

"So there's a lot to improve, but I'm happy with the performance with the team today.”

To be fair, the high-profile summer signing from West Ham United did have a good game, penalty aside. Alongside Mandash, he led the match in shots (five), while it was his parried effort that allowed Milinkovic-Savic to pounce to put Al Hilal in front on the half hour.

An electric winger who shone at this summer’s 2026 FIFA World Cup, Summerville also topped the charts for dribbles (four) and Expected Goals (1.04). As he showed on RSL debut against Al Faisaly last week, there’s most definitely more to come.

“I know what I'm capable of,” Summerville said. “For me, it was a good game, like OK for me. But I know what I'm capable of; I know what I can do.

“So there's a lot to improve in my game, and I will go in the training ground and work on this.”

For Al Hilal, a 100 percent start to the season - earlier this week, they progressed to the last 16 of the King’s Cup - suggests they’ll be pushing to go one better than last term’s runner-up finish in the RSL

“We want to win everything,” Summerville confirmed. “The league, the [Asian] Champions League [Elite], the [King’s] Cup. I want to bring this mentality to the club - the winner’s mentality - and hopefully we can be very successful with the team.”
