SPL reschedules three rounds to support national team's Gulf Cup preps
The Saudi Pro League (SPL) has announced changes to the schedule for Matchweeks 8, 9 and 10 of the 2026-27 Roshn Saudi League, following coordination with the Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF).
The changes have been made following a request to extend the national team’s preparation period ahead of the 2026 Arabian Gulf Cup, while also ensuring appropriate recovery time between league matches and supporting player readiness.
Under the revised schedule, Matchweek 8 will now take place from October 9-11 having originally been scheduled for September 17-19.
Matchweek 9 moves from October 9-11 to October 15-17, while Matchweek 10 will be played from October 18-20, rather than October 15-17.
Also as part of the changes, Matchweek 11 will begin on October 23, one day later than originally planned, to ensure sufficient recovery time between fixtures.
The revised schedule reflects the SPL’s continued commitment to supporting the national team and responding flexibly to the demands of a busy domestic and international football calendar.
Providing an extended preparation period will give the national team additional time together ahead of the Arabian Gulf Cup, which takes place in Jeddah from September 23-October 6.
Meanwhile, the revised league dates have been designed to maintain appropriate rest periods and ensure players are ready to compete.
The SPL will continue to work closely with SAFF to align the RSL calendar with the requirements of the national team, balancing the demands of domestic competition with the importance of providing Saudi Arabia with the best possible conditions to prepare for international tournaments.
