Title-winning coach with Shakhtar Donetsk joins Jeddah giants on two-year deal

Al Ahli have appointed Matthias Jaissle's successor, with Marino Pusic confirmed as their new manager on Thursday.

The former Shakhtar Donetsk head coach, who guided the Ukrainian club to a league title in 2024, has signed a contract until 2028 with the Roshn Saudi League side.

Al Ahli won't be Pusic's first coaching assigment in the Gulf, though: last season, the 54-year-old managed UAE outfit Al Jazira.

Previous to that, Pusic helped FC Twente secure promotion to the Eredivisie in 2019, while he sealed the Eredivisie title as Feyenoord's assistant coach in 2022-23.

Jaissle, who masterminded Al Ahli's back-to-back AFC Champions League Elite titles, has been named manager of English Premier League side Newcastle United.

Al Ahli kick off the 2026-27 RSL campaign on August 13, away to top-flight debutants Diriyah Club.
